The Importance of Being Earnest
Oscar Wildes most enduring and popular play, is readily regarded as one of the greatest theatrical comedies ever written.
Rough and Tumble Theatre Company brings to life the dapper delicacies, playful puns, and social satire of Wildes text, revitalised for a contemporary audience.
The show charts the complicated pairings of Jack and Algy, two dapper London lads, and their true loves, Gwendolyn and Cecily, two modern London women. What follows is a comedy of errors spanning the tearooms of London to the lawns of a country manor, resulting in mistaken identity, too many muffins, a mysterious leather handbag, and one question above all: Exactly who is Earnest?
Condensed to 60 minutes, The Importance of being Earnest is a fast-paced, pun-filled romp, brought to life by five actors playing a variety of characters.
